The official rule of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) states that a table tennis rubber must consist of two different colors so that the racket can be clearly identified during a match. One side of the rubber can be any color ( red , blue , green , pink , purple , etc.), but the other side must be black . This rule ensures clarity and fairness, as it allows the player to always clearly identify which side of the racket is being used, which is particularly important when there are differences in the playing characteristics of the rubbers (e.g., spin).
Therefore, there is no restriction regarding the color of one side of the covering, as long as the other side is black.
